Funny timing as a friend was saying yesterday that she is re-watching Twin Peaks and I wondered about doing the same. It has been a while.

Oh no! I haven't finished the new season yet. I'm not even halfway. I'm just afraid haha. And I agree, I love David Lynch's work in general but oooh how I love watching people react to Twin Peaks. It's always an experience.

My partners favorite show! We have the soundtrack on cd and it plays all the time this time of year. I’ll have to rewatch soon and see what comes up for me. I like David Lynch but his work is always vaguely unsettling for me. I love how far he pushes his characters in Twin Peaks…like they all feel believable somehow even though their actions and mannerisms are so bizarre. Everyone is a caricature.

Everything he makes really gets under my skin. Blue Velvet was really tough for me to watch with all of the graphic SA happening in it. But ya I don’t think there’s ever a sense he’s glorifying violence but just presenting it as apart of reality…I imagine his experiences must be trying to resolve themselves in his work.

Well first off, your partner has TASTE. Second, I agree with you on both the characters and how unsettling it can be. I think a lot of writers can fall into the trap of trying to create quirky characters that feel real but end up one dimensional, but Lynch and I’d add Wes Anderson are able to nail it.

I’ve struggled to get through Blue Velvet too. I get why it’s iconic, and it’s certainly gorgeous, but I can only handle so much violence at a time. I appreciate what he’s saying, but that doesn’t make it easy.
