Tony Curran was marvellous as Vincent in Doctor Who, genuinely moving, my favourite portrayal of Vincent on screen.

Van Gogh’s tender hopefulness is what makes him such a poignant figure. The Gauguin episode is heartbreaking because he had such high hopes, dashed by his mentor and false friend. Van Gogh’s art has a humanity that’s missing in Gauguin’s.
